WOODBURN PUBLIC ARTS AND MURALS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES FROM THE JULY 18, 2018 MEETING Attendees: Sharon Schaub, Sharon Corning, Colleen Vancil, Judy Massaia, Brenda Valentino-Bravo, Frank Lonergan Absent: Merri Berlin, Phil Scott, Christine Lopez Staff: Jamie Johnk, Helen Koshkaroff • Committee Members o Introductions • Approve June 15, 2018 Minutes: Sharon Schaub moved to approve; Colleen Vancil seconded. Motion passed. • Public Arts and Mural Project Planning: o Plaza Fountain Art Project: • Staff shared Mary Kirby’s designs for the London Bridge with Girl/Boy and Dog bronze art. • PAMC made the following recommended changes to the sculpture design: o Change the bandana on bulldog to a collar o Change the girl’s hair to two braids o Include the ball in front of the dog providing that it is attached and not a trip hazard. • The location of the sculpture will be determined once the committee has an opportunity to review information about the size and dimension of the art pieces. • Staff will request clarification on the timeline of the sculpture project (from design to completion). • Noting the above changes, PAMC motioned to approve the Plaza Fountain Art Project; Colleen Vancil moved to approve, Sharon Schaub seconded. Motion passed unanimously. • Staff will submit the PAMC recommendation of the Plaza Fountain Art Project for consideration at the August 13, 2018 Urban Renewal Agency and City Council meetings. o Water Tower Project: • Staff presented design concepts for the Water Tower Art project. PAMC provided feedback on concepts. Staff will work with Yes Graphics on incorporating the changes. • PAMC reached consensus that the tower design should read “Welcome to Woodburn” in three languages (i.e. English, Russian, Spanish) with images representing • Woodburn, including a tulip, matrioshki (stacking dolls) and a piñata. ---PAGE BREAK--- WOODBURN TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE (TAC) MEETING MINUTES FROM THE JULY 18, 2018 MEETING PAGE TWO • First Street Improvements Project: o Staff shared the 1st Street design concept for the First and Grant intersection. PAMC recommended incorporating “City of Woodburn” “Est. 1889” stamped inside the red circle. Staff will modify the design to represent these recommendations. • Peace Pole Project: o Staff shared concepts for the Peace Pole project and discussed the location in front of City Hall. • Recommendation from PAMC included using wood for the pole and adding black metal corners and design a top piece made with metal that would read “City of Woodburn” and a dove representing peace. In addition, the group discussed installing mosaic around the base of the pole, representing a water element. • Staff will work on modifications to the design and share at the next meeting. • Woodburn Main Street Committee: Staff discussed the next steps for Woodburn Main Street and shared information regarding the meeting on July 26th at 5:30 pm in the City Hall Chambers. • Phil Scott Resignation: Phil Scott notified staff of his intent to resign from the PAMC Sharon Schaub moved to approve the resignation; Colleen Vancil seconded. Motion passed. o A letter will be sent to Phil Scott accepting his resignation and thanking him for his service on the committee. • Butterfly Moving Murals: Brenda Valentino-Bravo mention her interest in creating a mural of butterfly wings for photo opportunities; PAMC would like to see art images for visuals, which will be shared at the next meeting. • Next Meeting: o Wednesday – August 15th, 2018 @ 10:00 a.m.  Woodburn City Hall, Conference Room
