Copyright 2017 Robert Peccia & Associates, Kalispell, Montana SOMERS AVENUE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT Whitefish, Montana Project Description The City of Whitefish is planning to reconstruct 6 blocks of Somers Avenue, from East 2nd Street to East 8th Street in the year 2018. The City has selected the engineering firm of Robert Peccia & Asso- ciates (RPA) of Kalispell to assist them with project management, public involvement, engineering de- sign and construction administration and observation. The project will generally include roadway re- construction and water main removal and replacement. Preliminary Design Concepts Sidewalks: The design team recently completed a sidewalk inventory and found that the ma- jority of the existing sidewalks are in good shape and is recommending they stay. Street Lights: Decorative City standard street lights are planned for this project. Street lights are typically placed at intersections and at mid-block locations. Water System: The entire water system will be removed and replaced. A new water main will be installed beneath the new roadway. New water services will be extended to each lot. New services will connect to existing within the boulevard lawn areas be- tween new curbs and existing sidewalks. Intersections: New ADA sidewalk ramps, crosswalk markings and signs will be installed at each intersection. Intersections will also receive new storm drain inlets and storm drain piping. Trees: The City will be completing a street tree inventory this summer. The inventory will identify any existing trees that should be removed as part of the project. Once the project is complete, the City street tree committee will oversee the plantings of new trees. Residents and others interested in the project are encouraged to attend and provide comments to the City and the design consultants. A presentation of existing information and an overview of the project will begin shortly after 6:30 p.m. Following the presentation, there will be an informal question and answer session. There will be an opportunity to review and dis- cuss the project displays with the City and the design consultants.
