Due to smolder danger, do not burn pine needles / yard rakings. Garbage and construction site materials are prohibited. Description & Size of Materials: The Whitefish Fire Department will conduct an on-site inspection of the burn pile, which must be 50 feet from any structures or combustible material with no overhead wires or branches within 25 feet of the space directly above the pile. On-site fire extinguishing equipment (such as dirt, a fire extinguisher, a garden hose, etc.) shall be available for immediate use. The Whitefish Fire Department has the authority to cancel any and all burn permits at any time due to fire conditions and other factors. Permittees must contact the Air Quality Hotline at (406) 751-8144 prior to ignition each burn day and maintain close supervision of the fire at all times. No new ignitions will be allowed after 8:00 AM. All burn piles must be constantly attended, completely extinguished, and cold to the touch by 6:00 PM. In the event that our assistance is required to contain or extinguish a burn, the permit holder will be responsible for all costs incurred by Whitefish Fire Department.
