Revised September 22, 2023 Recreation Department Maintenance Worker/Program Aide GENERAL NATURE OF WORK This individual maintains the physical plant of County recreational facilities for the use of county residents and for programming events. The work involves the preservation and enhancement of aesthetics related to public facilities, primarily two parks and public athletic fields. This position is responsible for grounds keeping, facility upkeep, and vehicle maintenance. In addition, the position will assist in areas of recreation activity supervision. EXAMPLES OF WORK Essential Job Functions: Collect trash and remove from recreational facilities on daily basis. Apply necessary fertilizer and pesticides to grass areas as required. Maintain grounds of two parks and athletic fields, including mowing the grass, removal of leaves, and trimming of vegetation. Clean and sanitize restrooms on premises. Paint lines on athletic fields for scheduled, organized athletic events. Maintain equipment, including ride-on lawnmower, weed whacker, chainsaw and leaf blower. Additional Job Functions: Assist in the distribution of food through the Golden Harvest Food Bank. Coordinate activities of part-time maintenance worker(s). Perform additional duties as required. Assist with special events conducted by WCRD. Supervision with after-hours/weekend field and picnic area usage. Assist with youth try-outs as needed. Gym supervisor. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Basic knowledge of lawn care and vegetation maintenance best practices, including how to operate required machinery safely and properly. Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance. Ability to use proper equipment such as, blowers, weed eaters, and lawn mowers. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Supervisor-Have direct-line authority over part-time maintenance employees. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY Limited to no fiscal responsibility. ---PAGE BREAK--- Revised September 22, 2023 WORKING CONDITIONS Occasional exposure to one or more unpleasant and/or hazardous conditions. Subject to all weather conditions and must be willing to work outdoors. Very heavy physical demands-exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Completion of a standard high school course of study, or its recognized equivalent. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Valid Georgia Driver’s License Shall meet all requirements of changing state and local laws in regards to qualifications and duties of this position. May require additional training and education as a condition of continuing employment.
