Revised February 28, 2024 Washington County, Georgia Road Department Assistant Public Works Coordinator GENERAL NATURE OF WORK This position manages the clerical duties of the Road Department including the organization of files and data management. Employees in this class are responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties requiring the application of knowledge and judgment acquired through experience. Duties involve record keeping or cash handling and public contact work requiring accuracy and considerable knowledge of county department concerned and of its practices and procedures. Employee may work without supervision a great deal of the time, but all work is checked for accuracy, judgment and over-all content. Incumbents in this class may be deputized to make clerical actions effective. EXAMPLES OF WORK Essential Job Functions: Manage organization of files, correspondence, and reports. Calculate payroll hours for Road Department. Draft letters and reports. Assign charge out numbers for department invoices. Provide customer service to general public. Additional Job Functions: Operate computer and other standard office equipment. Answer phones and handle in-person requests. Answer or refer complaints. Perform other duties as assigned. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong clerical and organizational skills. Strong public and interpersonal skills. Good knowledge of proper fiscal management. Knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of laws and procedures of department to which assigned. Skill in the use of computer and other office machines. Ability to make moderately complex arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy. Ability to understand and follow quickly and accurately written and oral instructions. Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with the public, sometimes in difficult and trying situations. ---PAGE BREAK--- Revised February 28, 2024 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY Manages petty cash and small activity funds. WORKING CONDITIONS Employees will be working in an office environment and may be subject to long hours in front of a computer screen. This may include occasional exposure to one or more unpleasant or hazardous conditions. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Completion of a high school course of study, or its recognized equivalent. Additional training may be included or supplemented including general clerical work, contact with the public and handling and accounting for cash. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Shall meet all requirements of changing state and local laws in regards to qualifications and duties of this position. May require additional training additional training and education as condition of continuing employment.
