Revised April 5, 2024 Washington County, Georgia Landfill Department Collection Center Operator GENERAL NATURE OF WORK This position operates the Garbage Collection Center for Washington County. The work involves operating the center to ensure that citizens properly dispose of several types of garbage into the proper container. This position involves interacting with the public, requires occasional heavy physical demands and occasional exposure to hazardous materials. This position reports directly to the Public Works Director. EXAMPLES OF WORK Essential Job Functions: • Direct citizens to correct garbage container • Assist disabled citizens in unloading garbage • Maintain clean and orderly site and office area • Notify Road Department when containers are full • Collect payments from citizens for tire disposal and issue receipts • Ensure only fee-paying citizens use Collection Center Additional Job Functions: • Open and close site according to scheduled hours or operation • Perform additional duties as required. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Considerable knowledge of types of garbage to ensure disposal into the proper container • Ability to identify prohibited materials that are not allowed at Collection Center • Ability to calculate required fees, collect money and issue receipts for tire disposal • Manual dexterity includes climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and feeling. • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY • None ---PAGE BREAK--- Revised April 5, 2024 FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY • Must be able to maintain an accurate record as to the amount of fees collected and report this daily to the Road Department. WORKING CONDITIONS Good working conditions. Constant exposure to odors from garbage and exposure to conditions typical to garbage collection and disposal. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE • High School Education or equivalent training NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • Valid State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record • Shall meet all requirements of changing state and local laws in regard to qualifications and duties of this position. • May require additional training additional training and education as condition of continuing employment
