Revised August 15, 2024 Washington County, Georgia Recreation Department Financial Clerk GENERAL NATURE OF WORK This position handles all financial accounting needs of the Recreation Department including accounts payable and receivable, the budget, books, ledgers and financial statements. The individual completes clerical duties as needed, including those related to meeting minutes, correspondence, and general office management. EXAMPLES OF WORK Essential Job Functions: Handle all accounts payable and receivable for the Senior Center and Recreation Department. Post and balance all financial books and ledgers, including preparation of financials for Board Members. Prepare payroll time sheets. Take meeting notes and write board meeting minutes. Issue receipts and accounts for monies received, deposit monies, and keep checkbook balanced. Additional Job Functions: Perform clerical and office management duties, including preparation of correspondence, phone duties, and processing of registrations. Coordinate special events for Department as required. Prepare new employee paperwork; oversee completion of such paperwork. Assist in notifying coaches and participants regarding special information, rainouts, and makeup games. Man recreation office in absence of colleagues. Perform additional duties as required. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including those specific to tax preparation and payment. Knowledge of Washington County budget process, including departmental-specific processes. Possession of quantitative bookkeeping skills related to journal entries and accounting. Office management skills including preparation of correspondence. Ability to comfortably operate computer, laminator, facsimile machine, adding machine, copier, and typewriter ---PAGE BREAK--- Revised August 15, 2024 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None—No work group leadership or supervisory responsibilities. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY Monitor budgets. Perform complex bookkeeping, or accounting functions. Have some discretion over how funds are spent; ensure compliance with departmental budget policies. WORKING CONDITIONS Generally good working conditions. Little to no exposure to harm or danger. Everyday risks require normal safety precautions. Light physical demands—Exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Associate’s Degree preferred. Minimum of one to two years experience required; experience with accounts payable, required. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Prior accounting knowledge required. Shall meet all requirements of changing state and local laws in regards to qualifications and duties of this position. May require additional training and education as a condition of continuing employment.
