Spring Recreation Participants: At the start of COVID-19, the Walton County Parks and Recreation Department promised to keep parents, participants, and coaches informed of any decisions being made regarding team sports. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has lasted much longer than anticipated. Although efforts of reopening the state and nation have begun, there are multiple stages in which this will occur. Team recreation programs will be one of the last stages to be allowed. We may be overly optimistic, but we think this could happen as early as June 1, 2020. We realize that this may not be the perfect solution; however, we are trying to offer recreational opportunities for our youth. The recreation calendar will be adjusted for the remainder of this year. Below, we will describe the decision and the options for a modified schedule. This proposed calendar is subject to change if conditions change. We will continue to do our best to communicate with you if changes occur. Spring Sports Track and Field Full refunds will be issued. We will issue all refunds in the manner in which they were paid. Fees paid through an online account will be refunded to the debit/credit card on file. If the fees were paid by cash or check, a check will be mailed to the person/address listed as the account holder for that participant. Refunds will be sent out by May 1, 2020. Please call if you do not receive it by that date. Soccer/ Baseball/Softball If guidelines set by the Governor and CDC allow, we will begin the soccer/ baseball/ softball programs in June. The season will consist of approximately ten games. The season will end prior to July 4, 2020. The all-star program is still being evaluated and will be determined at a later date. We do not know the status of other recreational programs or agencies at this moment but will update everyone as soon as that information is available. Coaches or staff will be contacting you this week to see if you are interested in participating in the June program. If you would rather be refunded, please let your coach or staff know so we can process your online refund or send a refund check. Please use the contact information provided below to request refunds. The refunds for these sports will have the costs associated with uniforms deducted since uniforms were distributed. The number of participants returning to play in our proposed June league will determine how teams are formed. We will either keep teams intact or redraft teams to ensure each team has enough players. The athletic staff will be working on reorganizing the program this week. If we cannot play in June, refunds will be issued, and all programs will resume in the fall.
