Walton County Government Weather Closing Protocol In order to ensure the safety of employees and the public, Walton County Government may close government offices or buildings during extreme weather events. Certain essential government functions, including those performed by EMS, Fire Rescue, Public Works, and the Sheriff’s Office will continue to operate throughout an extreme weather event. How Is a Decision to Close Walton County Government Offices Made? The Chairman of the Walton County Board of Commissioners will make a decision to close based on the current or anticipated condition of roads and bridges and safety and accessibility of government buildings. Every attempt will be made to make a decision as soon as possible before a closing is necessary in order to allow individuals to make alternate plans; however, weather conditions can change quickly and dramatically, and safety must take priority. How Are the Public and Walton County Government Employees Informed? In the event of a Walton County Government office closing, the public and Walton County Government employees will be notified in the following ways. 1. Notice of the closing will be sent to the following broadcast media: 11 Alive (NBC) WSB Channel 2 (ABC) WGCL Channel 46 (CBS) ---PAGE BREAK--- Fox 5 (FOX) WKUN & WMOQ Radio 2. An alert will be sent out to registered users of CivicPlus, the County’s Public Notification System. Individuals can register with CivicPlus here: Sign up for CivicPlus! 3.
