Range Rules 1. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. 2. Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot. 3. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire. 4. Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire. 5. Eye and Ear protection must be worn on the firing line. 6. Know your target and be aware of what is behind it. Permissible Firearms o Only firearms utilizing single projectile ammunition may be used on the firing ranges. o Rifles using centerfire cartridges .50 caliber or larger are prohibited. o Fully Automatic weapons, or weapons equipped with devices to enable sustained fire IE: Bump Stocks, Binary Triggers ETC are not permitted. o Shotguns are not permitted. General Range Regulations 7. Alcoholic beverages (as defined in O.C.G.A. § 3-1-2) are prohibited on a firing range. 8. No person under the influence of alcohol or drugs is permitted on a firing range. 9. Range use is allowed only in accordance with range hours and dates posted at the firing range. ---PAGE BREAK--- 10. Tobacco use is prohibited on or near the firing line. No smoking on the firing line or in the shooting pavilions. 11. Non-shooters shall remain at least six feet behind the firing line when a shooter is at the firing line, except a coach or instructor aged 18 years or older while directly supervising the shooter at the firing line. 12. Tracer or any ammunition considered to be incendiary, or explosive is prohibited. 13. No Exploding targets of any kind. Only approved targets are allowed. 14. Targets must be positioned so that the projectile(s) will not strike flat ground before the backstop; all targets must be located so that a projectile will strike between the base and halfway up the backstop. 15. Shooting at flying or thrown objects is prohibited. 16. Shooting at wildlife on the range is prohibited. 17. Any person under eighteen (18) years of age must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult 18 years old or older. 18. Children under the age of five will not be allowed in the shooting pavilions. 19. All objects, trash, targets, and spent cartridge hulls behind the red safety line must be removed by firing range users when leaving the range. RSO’s are responsible for any brass or debris in front of the red safety line. 20. Shooters shall fire only at the target directly down range of that person’s position. 21. Double tapping or rapid fire is prohibited. Shooters shall allow at least one second between shots. Competitions such as the Steel Target Challenge and other range events are exceptions to this policy. 22. No person shall handle a firearm when any other person is down range or otherwise between the shooter and the target. 23. No open toe shoes allowed. 24. Only paper and cardboard targets will be allowed for use by the public. Exceptions will be considered for approved matches and competitions. 25. Shooters will obey all range commands given by the range safety officer. 26. Horseplay on the firing line is prohibited. ---PAGE BREAK--- 27. Failure to comply with Range Rules and Commands may result in loss of range privileges and possible criminal charges. 28. No food or drink on the firing line General Gun Handling Safety Regulations o In the event of a firearm malfunction, the shooter shall keep his/her firearm pointed down range, advise all persons at the firing line of the malfunction, and unload as soon as possible. The firearm must be empty before it can be removed from the range. o All firearms on the firing line must be unloaded, with actions open and empty whenever the range is cold. If there is a weapon malfunction, stay in place keeping the weapon pointed downrange, raise your hand and wait for the command to cease fire and await the Range Officers instructions. o The muzzle of any firearm on the firing line must be pointed downrange at all times. o The muzzle of every firearm when in the firing position must be in front of the front edge of the bench upon which it rests. o The loading of muzzleloaders must be by single charge dispensers; pouring powder from larger containers directly into a muzzleloader is prohibited. o The loading of muzzleloaders must be done at least six feet behind the firing line whenever another muzzle loading firearm is on the firing line. o Shooters must be at the firing line before capping or priming muzzle loading firearms. o Containers of muzzleloader propellant must remain closed except when needed for filling a single charge dispenser. Primary containers of propellant must stay back at the rest table and remain closed except to fill a dispenser. o All firearms should be cased and/or in a clear and open position for transport from the parking lot to the shooting pavilions. ---PAGE BREAK--- Range Safety Officers o Any person on the range shall obey the range commands of county Range Safety Officers. This includes, but is not limited to: Begin Fire commands, Cease Fire commands, and Resume Fire commands (Such as Range Hot= clear and ready to fire, Cease Fire =All firing stops, weapons are cleared, made safe and placed on the bench with action open and pointed downrange. o Range Safety Officers and range users may call a Cease Fire at any time an unsafe condition is recognized on the range. Any person on the range shall immediately obey a Cease Fire command by grounding all firearms with actions open. o It is unlawful for any person on the range to disregard safety related instructions issued by a Range Safety Officer. o Authority O.C.G.A.
