Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have the right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation. We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. We have been notified by the State that our water system exceeded the maximum contaminant levels (MCL) for the following: Violation ID Violation ID Compliance Period Compliance Period Site # Site # Analyte Analyte Concentration Concentration MCL MCL TTHM 0.080 mg/L TTHM 0.080 mg/L 2023-12939 2023-12940 3Q2022 – 07/01/2022-09/30/2022 3Q2022 – 07/01/2022-09/30/2022 504 501 0.095 mg/L 0.092 mg/L Wh Whatat shou ould I do? • There is nothing you need to do. You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor. • If you have a severely compromised immune system, have an infant, are pregnant, or are elderly, you may be at increased risk and should seek advice from your health care providers about drinking this water. Some people who drink water containing Trihalomethanes in excess of the MCL over many years, may experience problems with their liver, kidneys, or central nervous system, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer. Wh Whatat hap a p ppened: The City of Thomson was notified in November 2022 by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) the level of total trihalomethanes in routine drinking water sampling exceeded permitted levels. As shown above, the samples tested were only elevated from the permitted amounts - one sample contained 0.092 mg/L and another .095 mg/L where the allowable concentrations are not to exceed 0.080 mg/L. Wh Whatat is being don one: This is the second time the Thomson-McDuffie Water System has experienced increased levels of in over two years. As was the case then and now the City of Thomson has an approved loan for funds to make improvements to the Water Treatment plant at Augusta Road with work beginning in Spring 2023. Among the improvements are a system designed designed specifically to eliminate by adding mixing and aeration in the clarifier as an additional measure to remove from the finished water. As previously reported, te Design Development Report for this project has been approved at the state level. We are confident the water treatment project will decrease TTHM levels if not eliminate them altogether. Please note that the reported levels are in of a milligram per liter of water, extremely small amounts.
