For Immediate Release Date: April 16, 2014 Contact: Lola Beatlebrox, Summit County Artscape Chair Telephone: (435) 640‐0682 E‐mail: [EMAIL REDACTED] Zane DeKoff’s Voyager Wins People’s Choice Award COALVILLE, UTAH – Park City High School student Zane DeKoff has won the “People’s Choice Award,” the sculpture that will be purchased by the City of Coalville for its permanent art collection. This year’s award is $1,250. Selection of the piece was accomplished by on‐line and paper ballot voting. “Voyager” by Park City High School student Zane DeKoff is an airplane fashioned from metal and displayed on a high metal rod near North Summit High School. “The ‘Around the World Art Show’ at the Kimball Art Center inspired me to make this piece,” said DeKoff. “I chose a paper airplane shape because kids around the world have made paper planes they represent fun and childhood and are so easily recognizable.” At 16 years of age, DeKoff has eclectic interests including welding, photography, drawing and sculpting. He has recently been invited to participate in The Dreamathon, an interactive and themed exhibit highlighting the work of artists, designers, photographers, musicians, storytellers and inspirational speakers in Salt Lake City. The deadline for submissions to the coming year’s Artscape People’s Choice Award contest is Monday, May 5, 2014. The Summit County Artscape exhibit is open to all artists who wish to be considered to show their work on Main Street, Coalville, Utah, from May 12, 2014‐April 30, 2015. Up to eight outdoor sculptures will be selected. New and existing works are eligible. Pieces must be ready to install and sustainable outdoors without maintenance for one year. Transportation is the responsibility of the artist. Works that exhibit a Summit County "sense of place" are encouraged, but not required. Next year the City of Coalville will purchase one piece of sculpture (up to $1,500) out of all the accepted entries displayed in Coalville for this year’s exhibit period.
