Municipal Worker II 1 Jurisdiction: Schuyler County Jurisdictional Class: Non-Competitive (requested) Adopted: March 18, 2008 MUNICIPAL WORKER II DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for leading and participating in semi-skilled level work in the performance of a variety of public works maintenance and repair tasks in a town or village. Work is performed under the general supervision of a supervisor. The incumbent uses independent judgment in completing assigned projects. Assigns and directs daily work assignments to a crew of assigned workers. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Leads and participates in the construction, repair, maintenance, and cleaning of streets, roads, parks, and other public facilities; Operates a variety of motor and public works equipment, such as plows, grader, mowers, rollers, backhoes, etc.; Trains, directs, and evaluates the work of assigned employees, providing feedback and discipline as necessary. Communicates instructions from supervisor to assigned crew; Records work completed and crew time on simple forms. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the common principles, practices, tools, equipment and safety precautions used by public works departments; Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, occasionally under adverse weather conditions; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to lead a crew of workers and to complete work on schedule; Ability to supervise the work of others; Ability to keep simple records, written or computerized as required; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of work experience in public works maintenance activities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess and maintain a Class B driver’s license.
