Jurisdiction: Schuyler County Jurisdictional Class: Non-Competitive Adopted: January 18, 1990; Revised: May 3, 2004; Updated: January 16, 2019 LINEWORKER DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is difficult work consisting of the erection, installation, maintenance and repair of all overhead and underground electric power distribution lines. Work requires climbing poles in all kinds of weather and rigid observance of safety precautions to prevent injury to self or others. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Senior Lineworker and/or Supervisor of Village Electric Department with some leeway permitted for the use of independent judgment in carrying out specific assignments. Supervision may be exercised over the work of trainees, helpers and laborers. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Sets up and guys poles for electric power transmission lines; Strings electric power lines on poles and through underground conducts; Installs transformers, crossarms and other equipment; Repairs and replaces street and signal lights; Runs service lines from poles to consumer's premises; May perform minor electrical and automotive repairs; Reads electric meters and assists in the testing, adjusting, installation, maintenance and repair of electric meters. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the principles of electricity; Good knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of electric power distribution systems and equipment; Good knowledge of the methods and tools used in the removal of trees and/or branches; Good knowledge of the safety precautions of the trade; Ability to climb poles and towers and to work at considerable heights; Ability to work in adverse weather conditions; Ability to splice wires and cables; Ability to follow oral and written directions; Resourcefulness; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, and One year of experience as a Lineworker on high voltage electric power distribution systems; or Two years of experience as a Lineworker Helper; or An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in and SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess a NYS Class B CDL license at time of hire or be willing to obtain within one year of hire.
