Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services October 2022 The Salem Council on Aging 55th Anniversary Party The Salem Council on Aging turns 55 this October! To celebrate, we are having an Open House on Wednesday, October 12th from 10:00am –2:00pm. The Open House will feature demonstrations from many of the classes we offer, entertainment and light snacks. Staff and board members will be on hand to provide information on services. Picture displays and sign boards will be available to record memories. Please stop by during the day to help us celebrate. Middle School Night: Pumpkins and Sundaes Children ages 9-14 are invited to join Caroline for a pumpkin decorating event, followed by ice cream sundaes! Monday, October 3rd 6:00-7:00pm $15.00 per person Register at salemma.myrec.com Scarecrow Building Contest We are looking for some creative scarecrows in the City of Salem during the month of October. If you build a scarecrow for your yard, send us a picture of it. Pictures should be sent to [EMAIL REDACTED]. Pictures will be posted daily on our Facebook page throughout the month of October. Prizes awarded for the following categories: scariest, friendliest, and best use of natural materials. We will be having a guided tour of the exhibit ”Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love”. Please register with Rosanna at [PHONE REDACTED]. Special thanks to Mass Bike for collaborating on a bike safety program last month. Spooky Social at the COA Join us at the Salem Council on Aging for A Spooky Social to celebrate Halloween. Light snacks will be served and Pete Saran will provide live music for your dancing pleasure. You are encouraged to come in costume and prizes will be awarded in different costume categories. Autumn Decorative Boards—ages 9-15 Kids can jump into the fall season and create their own decorative sign during this 2 hour program lead by local artist, Linda Abbene. Thursday, October 13th 5:00-7:00pm $15.00 per person, includes all supplies Register at salemma.myrec.com Beginner’s Pickleball We are offering one last adult beginner’s class this season at Collins Cove with Instructor, Sue Carnevale. Wednesdays, 10:30-11:45am October 19th– November 9th $90.00 for the session. Register at salemma.myrec.com Haunted Happenings Grand Parade—October 6th Members of the Salem Council on Aging are thrilled to be part of the annual parade again this year. Half Day of School Autumn Exploration—ages 6-9 Join Recreation Coordinator, Caroline and spend your half day exploring the Autumn season and making leaf crafts at Winter Island. Wednesday, October 19th 2:00-3:00pm $10.00 per child Register at salemma.myrec.com Beginner’s Calligraphy In this 4 week class for adults, participants will use a calligraphy pen and learn basic strokes and letters.
