Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services September 2024 Dementia & Caregiving: Your Questions Answered Do you care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease or a related dementia? Karen Coppola, certified dementia practitioner, will be at the Salem Council on Aging to discuss these topics and answer questions. Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services is thrilled to have an instructor from DEAF Inc. teaching classes to youth and adults. Students will learn basic sign language, numbers, finger spelling and sentences. Classes will be held on Monday evenings from September 16th— November 18th. Youth (ages 8-10) class—6:00-7:00pm Adult class—7:00-8:00pm Cost is $155.00 for the 8 week session. In this four week class, participants will use a calligraphy pen and learn basic strokes and letters. Tuesdays, September 24th—October 15th 6:00-7:00pm $35.00 for the session. Register at salemma.myrec.com Pasta Dinner Fundraiser The Friends of the Salem Council on Aging are hosting a Pasta Dinner Fundraiser on Thursday, September 19th from 4:00-7:00pm Tickets are $15.00 per person, $12.00 for seniors. Participants will be introduced to basic skills such as passing, catching, and flag pulling as well as the rules and strategies of the games. Sundays, September 22nd—November 10th 10:00-11:00am at Memorial Park $135.00 for the 8 week session. Register at salemma.myrec.com Piano Keyboard Class—Ages 7-12 This five week program is designed for students who already have some basic piano skills. Students will learn how to create chords and use basic to improvise and create their own songs. Keyboards will be provided for use in the class. Junior Artist & Scientist Club James Eric Rogers invites students ages 6-10 to join this four- week program comprised of art and science projects. Tuesdays, 4:00-5:30pm September 17th—October 8th $80.00 per person, includes all supplies. Register at salemma.myrec.com Beginner/Emerging Intermediate Skills and Drills Tennis for Adults Skills and Drills Tennis is for players looking to establish and improve consistency in basic strokes. The program will include 30 minutes of coaching and drills with a focus on a particular skill/stroke each week followed by 30 minutes of group games. Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00pm September 18th—October 23rd $120.00 for the session. This event is hosted by Kelly Annese and held the last Thursday of each month. This month the group will be visiting Ironstone Horse Farm on Thursday, September 26th from 1:00-2:30pm.
