Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services May 2021 The Salem Council on Aging is hosting a Cinco de Mayo Drive-Thru Lunch on Wednesday, May 5th at 11:00am. This event is being sponsored by the Salem Rotary Club and will be held in the parking lot of the Jean A. Levesque Community Life Center. Reservations are required. Please register with Rosanna at [PHONE REDACTED] by Monday, May 3rd. Adult Pickleball Lessons Our morning session of adult pickleball lessons will begin on Wednesday, May 5th . The beginner class meets at 9:30am and advanced beginner at 10:30am at the Collins Cove Courts. Certified instruction with Sue Carnevale for a 5 week session. Mixed Media Art Class for Children—ages 8-14 Spend a spring morning with local artist, Linda Abbene for a fun, creative class. Students will collect shells, driftwood, stones and other sea elements from the shoreline to create a personalized composition incorporating colored pencils, crayon resist and watercolor techniques. The clinic will be held at Collins Cove and is geared to teens ages 12-16. Session 1: May 6th—May 27th 4:00-5:00pm $40.00 per player Register at salemrec.com Mother’s Day at the Council on Aging To celebrate all the special woman in our lives, the Salem Council on Aging is hosting a special drive-thru event on Friday, May 7th at 9:30am. As we head into the spring and summer programs, just a reminder that we are following all public health guidelines set forth by the state and our local health department with regards to COVID. City of Salem Cribbage Tournament The Annual 2020 City of Salem Cribbage Tournament (held 14 months late) will take place on Saturday, June 5th at the new Ocean’s Edge Salem Restaurant, upstairs in their function room. This will be a double elimination tournament. The tournament begins at 10:00am. The cost is $10.00 per person and registration is available at salemrec.com. Prizes and trophies awarded. Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services is pleased to be working closely with Salem State University students majoring in Recreation Management. During April school vacation, students created a program called “Learning Confidence Through Creative Expression”. This picture shows the kids displaying their creativity with pretending to be different animals. Thanks to the students for organizing this program. We will be taking advantage of the upcoming spring season to move some of our COA programs outdoors. Many of these will be held at the Winter Island Pavilion. Thanks to Dave Gilbert, Winter Island Manager, and his staff for accommodating us.
