September 11, 2020 Residents of: Liberty Hill Ave Re: Notification of the Start of Safe Routes School Project This notice has been prepared to inform you that the City of Salem and Massdot will be starting roadway improvements in your area to improve the safety of the roadway and sidewalks. The contractor, J.W. Flett, of Belmont, Massachusetts (Flett) is currently mobilizing to start work. The City and Massdot will hold a neighborhood meeting on Tuesday, September 15, at 6 PM, in the parking Lot of the Bates School, to present the project and answer any questions you may have. This work will take place on Liberty Hill Avenue from the intersection of Appleton Street to the Bates School. In advance of the Flett work, National Grid is currently replacing the gas main and services in the project area. Flett’s work includes replacing drainage and the reconstruction of the roadway, sidewalks and curbs. The work hours and days for this effort is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with the exception of Saturday gas work. The entire project should be completed, weather permitting, by the end of this construction season, with final roadway striping and project clean up expected in the Spring of 2021. As the project progresses, your nieghborhood will be an active construction site and you should be careful and drive at a reduced speed accordingly. On the days when Flett is working, it is important not to have cars parked in the roadway. No parking signs will be posted in advance of construction and no-parking will remain in effect until construction is complete for that day. You will always have access to the street and your driveways after work hours. Police details will be present to assist everyone through the work zone and to facilitate traffic management. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience you may incur during this process. The City appreciates your patience and forbearance during this project. If you have any questions, or require additional information, please call my office at the number above. Sincerely, David H. Knowlton, PE; City Engineer/DPS Director Kimberley Driscoll Mayor DAVID H.
