Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services February 2023 Valentines and Renewal of Vows Ceremony The Salem Council on Aging will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th. A big part of our celebration is our Vow Renewal Ceremony where couples will have their vows renewed with our City Clerk, Ilene Simons. There will be live music, lunch and dancing. New England Birds of Prey: By Wingmasters This family program features 5 live birds, and will display the crucial roles these birds play in the wild, as well as why they are so important in our own Salem community. Instructor Christina Bash will lead children in step by step instructions to create a winter gnome using a sock, rice, yarn and bead. Wednesday, February 22nd 3:00-4:00pm $25.00 includes all supplies Register at salemma.myrec.com Advocates of Positive Aging There a new group meeting at the Community Life Center whose goal is to utilize knowledge to educate and enlighten those ages 60+ with the intent to celebrate age equity with our center. The group has been reading and discussing books, articles and art forms that will inform one another about the widespread and overpowering harmful attitudes and practices directed toward seniors. Pirate Day Children ages 8-12 are welcome to register for this fun February school vacation program. The afternoon consists of a field trip to the Real Pirates Museum in Salem, then upon return to the CLC the kids will have a pirate themed snack and participate in a scavenger hunt. Friday, February 24th 12:30-3:30pm $25.00 per person includes admission to museum, transportation and program materials. The Salem Food Pantry offers an abundant selection of produce, proteins, spices and dairy products. They partner with local farmers and health organizations to nourish our community from the inside out. February School Vacation Art Class Teens ages 10-15 can join local artist Linda Abbene for a February school vacation art class that will include water color painting and salt art to create raised effects on certain elements of design. Thursday, February 23rd 5:00-6:30pm $20.00 per participant. Junior Artist & Scientist Club—School Vacation Join local STEAM educator, James Eric Rogers, for a 4 hour program that will focus on art and science activities to include having each child create their own lava lamp. This program, for children ages 6-10, will be held at the Forest River Education Room. Children should bring a lunch and water bottle. Tuesday, February 21st 10:00am –2:00pm $60.00 per person, includes all supplies.
