Quick Overview of “Building climate resiliency in the city of Salem” by Mayor Pangallo and Neal Duffy House of Seven Gables June 26, 2024 PowerPoint Presentation by John Hayes, Chair, SERC For July 10, 2024 meeting of SERC (postponed from June 26) ---PAGE BREAK--- John Hayes, Chair of the city’s Sustainability, Energy, and Resiliency Committee (SERC) attended this “Building Climate Resiliency in the City of Salem” event hosted by The House of Seven Gables on June 26, 2024. It was a moderated discussion expertly led by Dakota Russell, Executive Director of the H7G featuring Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo and Neal Duffy, Director of the city’s Sustainability and Resiliency Department. Although the discussion had no visuals, I prepared this PowerPoint so as to better give an overview of the discussion for SERC members at our special July 10 meeting of SERC (which was postponed from our original date of June 26, the same day/time as this event). All of the content in this PPoint was referred to by either the Mayor or Neal during the discussion. Much is happening at the state, regional, and local levels in MA regarding climate action planning, climate change resiliency and adaptation planning, and in developing solutions to help mitigate the harmful impacts of climate change which are already occurring before our eyes on a daily/weekly, basis. There is much in this PPoint for SERC members (and the interested public) to familiarize themselves with as we serve our advisory role to the Mayor and City Council. I hope those viewing this PPoint will consult some of the resources referred to in the presentation to delve into the details. The climate crisis is happening, and we need “all hands on deck” to confront it to ensure a safe, healthy, more sustainable and just world for the future. ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- A moderated discussion led by Dakota Russell, Exec.
