Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services November 2022 Thanksgiving Cheer for Salem Seniors Send Salem Seniors some Thanksgiving cheer! We will be collecting Thanksgiving cards that will be delivered to home-bound seniors on Thanksgiving Day. Cards can be dropped off at the Community Life Center until Tuesday, November 22nd. We are also offering free card making kits while supplies last. Please call Caroline at [PHONE REDACTED] to reserve a kit. Salem Kite Day This is a fun family event for all. Staff from the Blue Hill Observatory Science Center will teach an educational kite making workshop that will focus on math, history, physics and kite stories. One kite kit will be provided per family. After your kite is created, join us in flying your kite for all to see. Saturday, November 12th 10:00am –12:00pm Forest River Park Education Room in the pool house. $20.00 per family. Register at salemma.myrec.com Jim McAllister Lecture Local historian Jim McAllister explores the contributions made by some of Salem senior citizens over the centuries in various fields of endeavor and walks of life. While some names– John Betram, Elizabeth Peabody and Dr. Edward Holyoke will be familiar to many area residents, other contributors will be getting their long overdue moment in the sun. Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services 401 Bridge St. Salem, MA 01970 [PHONE REDACTED] The Salem Council on Aging is thrilled to have local author and poet, Julian Collins with us to offer a 6 week Creative Writing Workshop. The Workshop is comprised of writing prompts, in-class writing, sharing with the class and some home writing. All supplies are included. Both beginners and experienced writers are welcome. Harvest Wine Glass Painting Become inspired by the harvest season and paint your own wine glass, led by local artist Linda Abbene. Bring your own glass of choice and create a masterpiece to keep for yourself or to give as a gift. Wine and soft drinks will be provided. This is an age 21+ program. Monday, November 7th 6:00-7:30pm $15.00 per person Register at salemma.myrec.com The Friends of the Salem Council on Aging are sponsoring home delivered Thanksgiving dinners to those seniors who are isolated and alone or do not have family and friends who can deliver or share a meal. The Friends are working with Brother’s Taverna to provide the dinner. Dinners will be delivered by a volunteer on Thanksgiving morning. We appreciate the generosity of the Friends of the Salem Council on Aging during this great time of need. Family Bingo Night Looking for a fun, Friday evening event? Join us at the Community Life Center for a family game of Bingo! Bring the whole family… feel free to bring snacks...play for prizes! After School Drama Club Children ages 5-11 are invited to learn the basics of acting in a fun and creative way, resulting in a last day performance.
