The Historic Core started developing with the arrival of the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway, bringing settlers, loggers, miners, fisher folk, and farmers to the Squak/Sammamish Valley and to the settlement called Melrose. That spirit of adventure and pioneering continues today and the Historic Core Plan hopes to foster a great place for the community to create tomorrow.
