Memorandum To: Planning Commission From: Erika Vandenbrande, Director, Planning and Community Development, [PHONE REDACTED] Steve Fischer, Manager, Development Services Division, [PHONE REDACTED] Cathy Beam, AICP, Principal Environmental Planner, [PHONE REDACTED] Date: January 9, 2019 Subject: Shoreline Master Program Periodic Update PURPOSE On January 9, 2019, the Planning Commission will begin its review of a package of amendments to update the Shoreline Master Program. Proposed amendments are to the Redmond Zoning Code (RZC) 21.68, Shoreline Master Program, RZC 21.64, Critical Areas Regulations, and RZC 21.78, Definitions consistent with requirements set forth under the Shoreline Management Act (SMA), RCW 90.58.080(4). BACKGROUND The City of Redmond adopted its current Shoreline Master Program in 2009. The Shoreline Management Act requires that a comprehensively updated Shoreline Master Program be periodically reviewed every eight years. This review ensures the city’s SMP stays current with changes in laws and rules, remains consistent with other Redmond plans and regulations, and is responsive to changed circumstances, new information, and improved data. Redmond is included in the first round of periodic reviews, which must be completed on or before June 30, 2019. PREPARATION FOR JANUARY 9TH STUDY SESSION Commissioners are requested to review the Technical Committee Report and exhibits which were provided in the December 26, 2018 meeting packet. Please contact Cathy Beam by noon on Monday, January 7th with additional questions or concerns. REVIEW SCHEDULE The Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on this item on January 23, 2019. City Council’s review and action is anticipated during the first quarter of 2019.
