Youth Advocate Position The Youth advocate will give input to the Redmond Arts Commission in matters such as programming and art in the community for people ages 16 to 26. The advocate should be able to communicate to Redmond youth about the actions and programs of the Arts Commission and serve as a community liaison. POSITION EXPECTATIONS This is a non-voting advisory position on the Redmond Arts Commission. The advocate is expected to attend regular meetings on the second Thursday at 7:00PM at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th Street, Redmond, WA 98073-9710. Advocates are asked to give opinion and input on matters before the Arts Commission. The advocate may also be asked to elicit ideas and opinion from Redmond youth and report commission matters to Redmond schools, colleges and community groups. Advocates who are granted a second term are expected to develop and complete a project. TERM The annual term starts September and ends August. Advocates may re-apply for a second term. SELECTION CRITERIA Must be 16 to 26 years old at the time of application Live, work or study within Redmond city limits Expresses knowledge of or interest in art and culture Demonstrated ability to connect with her/his peers in Redmond Ability to attend meetings between September 2012 and August 2013 SELECTION PROCESS We encourage counselors, teachers, and leaders from the cultural and creative industries (music, dance, theatre, film, fine art, folk art, digital art, literary art, and multimedia) to urge qualified candidates to apply. We hope to consider candidates with varied artistic and educational experience. An interview committee of at least one Arts Commissioner and the Arts Administrator will select a candidate. All positions are open until filled and service may start any time during the term.
