Our community values facilities and programs that provide places to build relationships across neighborhoods and cultures, opportunities for growth, and healthy lifestyles. The City’s efforts to meet these needs are often impacted by lack of capacity or lack of desired amenities. Challenges: • The Redmond Senior Center is currently closed due to structural deterioration. • The Old Firehouse Teen Center needs mid-life replacements of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and the building envelope. • The City is leasing the Lake Washington Institute of Technology Redmond Campus for use as the Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village. This building does not include a gymnasium or a large auditorium type space for events and performances. • Redmond Pool is currently under renovation and is scheduled to re-open in Fall 2020. • The City of Redmond is growing, and the current recreational facilities do not meet current or future demands. • A new Interlocal Agreement with the Lake Washington School District provides the City with access to part of the Old Redmond Schoolhouse, including the Gymnasium, Dance Studio and Clay Studio, beginning in Fall 2020. Opportunities: • Evaluate options to renovate, rebuild, or rebuild and expand community center space at the Redmond Senior Center. • Enhance partnership with Lake Washington School District for capital and operating partnerships. • Continue coordinating with King County and other Eastside cities on a possible regional partnership for aquatics facilities. • Evaluate the benefits of capital and operating partnerships with other agencies and non-profit groups. • Expand services for community members, who seek different amenities and facilities for fitness, lifelong learning, cultural arts and events and gathering spaces.
