CATEGORY REQUIREMENT AGE 18 years of age at time of application. Age 21 for members of the Citizens Patrol US CITIZEN No, with the exception of Commissioned assignments HIGH SCHOOL GRAD/GED Yes VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE Washington State Driver's License required at time of hire. Or other approved I.D. FELONY CONVICTION(S) AS AN ADULT No felony convictions allowed. FELONY CONVICTION(S) AS A JUVENILE None ABILITY TO READ & SPEAK THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE Ability to read, write and speak fluent English. TIME COMMITMENT Due to the time it takes to conduct the selection process, the Redmond Police Department does ask for at least a one year commitment in the volunteer program AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS THE FOLLOWING ARE AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS - APPLICANTS SHOULD NOT APPLY TO OUR AGENCY IF THEY INDICATE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: Driving • 1 or more traffic crime convictions in last 5 years (DWI, Suspended, Reckless, etc). • Suspension of driver's license within past 5 years. • 3 or more moving violations in the past 3 years • 1 or more at-fault accidents in past 3 years Drug Use • Sold marijuana, narcotics, or dangerous drugs • All illegal drug use will be closely scrutinized on a case by case basis • Had a pattern of abusing prescription medication Criminal Activity • Any adult felony conviction. • Any misdemeanor, or felony conviction while employed in a criminal justice capacity. • Adult misdemeanor convictions will be carefully reviewed. • Been convicted of any crime under a domestic violence statue. • Unlawful sexual misconduct. Employment • Been dishonorably discharged from the United States armed forces. • Lied during any stage of the hiring process. • Falsified his or her application, personal history questionnaire, or any other forms during hiring process. Discretionary Disqualifiers •Alcohol or substance misuse and/or abuse •Excessive traffic violations •Commission of a felony •Any other conduct or pattern of conduct that would tend to disrupt, diminish, or otherwise jeopardize public trust in the law enforcement profession. •Inability to perform the essential functions of a police volunteer
