Screening (Type II, refer to the Redmond Zoning Code, Chapter 21.32 Landscaping) shall be used to avoid visibility from these public vantage points. The coop and run shall be setback at least 15 feet from all property lines unless the adjoining property is non-residential. In this case, the setback may be reduced to 5 feet along the respective property line. A D DI TI ONA L R EQ UIR E ME NT S In addition to confirming that Home Owners Covenants support the keeping of domestic animals including chickens, residents must ensure that these requirements are met: -Chickens shall be sheltered in a clean structure. The shelter shall provide protection from the following: - Weather by providing a fully enclosed structure including walls, roof, floor, and securable door. - Predators by being made of sturdy material such as plywood. - Rodents by limiting small points of uncontrolled access, no larger than ½ inch. The run shall provide protection from the following: - Weather by providing a covered portion of run space that allows chickens to escape rain and snow. - Predators by being made of sturdy, small gauge animal fencing such as chicken wire along the entire perimeter of the run. Floor fencing should also be installed. The top of the run shall be covered with additional similar fencing or netting in a manner that helps prevent chickens from straying. The City of Redmond allows the keeping of chickens (female chickens, pullets, or hens) in single-family residential zones, the urban recreation zone, and public parks. The maximum number of chickens allowed coincides with the underlying zone in which a property is located: A chicken husbandry registration is required in advance of housing chickens. The registration confirms that the property owner(s) understands and will maintain said property in accordance with the Redmond Municipal Code, including Chapter 7.04 Animal Control. S T RU CT URE The chicken coop, run, and other chicken husbandry structures shall ensure the welfare and safety of resident chickens. These structures shall be designed and maintained to prevent access by rodents and predators and to avoid attracting rodents and predators. The coop and the run shall not be larger than 200 square feet in gross floor area. The coop shall be no higher than 8 feet and the run no higher than 6 feet. Both shall ensure that resident chickens do not stray and that rodents and predators do not gain access.
