OPERATION IDENTIFICATION Information and Property Inventory Sheet Redmond Police Department 8701 160th Ave NE PO Box 97010 Redmond, WA 98073 www.redmond.gov/police 3 Easy Ways to Participate ❶ Engrave valuables ❷ Create an inventory list ❸ Document with photographs Purchase an electric engraving tool or contact the Redmond Police Department to borrow one. Engrave valuables with your Washington State Driver’s License Number preceded by “WA.” Businesses can use their Washington State Tax Number preceded by “WA” and ending in “TX.” This allows property to be more easily traced and identified as yours. Do not use your Social Security Number or engrave valuables such as heirlooms, paintings, antiques, silver, china, or items that you will be selling for profit. If you sell engraved items, etch one line through your Driver’s License Number so that it is still readable, initial it and give the buyer a bill of sale describing the property. While marking your property, make a list of all your valuables. List the brand, model, serial number and the date purchased, along with the value. Make a duplicate copy and keep it in a safe place. Should you suffer a major loss, this list will be vital because your insurance agent will require the best possible documentation to verify your claim. The inventory will also help police in their attempt to recover lost or stolen property. Photographs Supplement your inventory list with photographs. Photograph valuable items that are inappropriate for marking, such as art, jewelry, antiques, china, silver, furs, and similar items. Then photograph or videotape each room, cupboard, closet (don’t forget the garage and vehicles) in a way that will show all furnishings and accessories. Operation Identification is a powerful deterrent to burglary and resource for recovering stolen or lost property. To learn more about other burglary deterrents such as Neighborhood Watch call the Redmond Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at [PHONE REDACTED]. Operation Identification is a citizen’s burglary prevention program for use in homes and businesses. The program involves marking property with your Washington State identifier number as a means of discouraging burglary and theft. ---PAGE BREAK--- PROPERTY INVENTORY RECORD: (Keep this list in a safe place i.e.: Safe Deposit Box) Electrical Appliances: Computers, T.V., Cameras, Electronics, GPS units, Power Tools etc. ITEM MAKE SERIAL # VALUE PURCHASE DATE MARKED Y/N Items of value without serial numbers ITEM MAKE VALUE PURCHASE DATE MARKED Y/N Automobiles, Bicycles, Scooters, RVs ITEM MAKE SERIAL # VALUE PURCHASE DATE MARKED Y/N
