HEALTH & WELLNESS NEW WELLNESS PROGRAM FOR MARCH DECLINE IN MEMORY – BRAIN CELL WORKOUTS Friday, March 25 12:30 - 1:30 PM Sponsored by: Linden Grove HealthCare Center A LIGHT LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED Please join our guest speaker and learn valuable tips on how to help prevent dementia! Here are just a few: • Remember that dementia is not a specific disease – it is an overall term that describes a wide range of associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills that are severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to perform everyday activities; • Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60-80% of cases and vascular dementia, which occurs after a stroke, is the second most common type of dementia. • Research shows that regular physical exercise may help lower the risk of some types of dementia because exercise increases blood and oxygen flow to the brain. • What you may eat may have the greatest impact on brain health. Research suggests that heart healthy eating patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet, may help protest the brain. A Mediterranean diet includes relatively little red meat and emphasizes whole grains, fruits and vegetables, fish/shellfish, nuts, olive oil, and other healthy fats. • You can help protest your brain with some of the same strategies that protect your heart – don’t smoke, take steps to reduce your blood pressure, keep cholesterol and blood sugar within recommended limits, and maintain a healthy weight. You will learn a lot more tips during this presentation. Please register at the receptionists’ desk or call the Center at 253- 841-5555.
