Green Stormwater Infrastructure Cost-Share Program PUYALLUP’S RAIN GARDEN PROGRAM This program offers a cost-share opportunity to City of Puyallup residents to encourage the installation of GSI at their residential properties. Approved participants cost share based on the type of GSI they install: • Permeable pavements: participants receive a reimbursement for 50% of the total costs, up to $7,500. • Rain Gardens: participants pay for contractor labor to build the rain garden and the City purchases all materials, up to $1,000. • Rain Barrels: participants receive a reimbursement for the cost of the rain barrel, up to $125. City of Puyallup 333 S Meridian Puyallup, WA 98371 www.cityofpuyallup.org GSI stands for Green Stormwater Infrastructure, which refers to systems and practices that use or mimic natural hydrologic processes. These systems filter stormwater as it soaks into the ground, removing pollutants before entering our waterways. By installing GSI on your property, you will support improvements in water quality, providing lasting environmental benefits. Program-Eligible GSI: RAIN GARDENS PERMEABLE PAVEMENTS RAIN BARRELS 1. Application: City of Puyallup residential properties are eligible. 2. Preliminary Site Evaluation: Program staff will evaluate the site to suggest possible green stormwater infrastructure. 3. Percolation (Perc) Test: Soils will be tested for infiltration rate to ensure GSI is feasible at the proposed site. 4. Cost-Share Agreement: Written and signed agreements will be completed between homeowner and City. 5. Select pre-approved contractor, design, and install: To ensure GSI is installed correctly, homeowner will need to hire a pre-approved contractor. This is a cost-share program wherein the program participant pays a portion of the costs involved. For permeable pavements: the City will reimburse the participant 50% of the total cost, up to $7,500. For rain gardens, participants pay all labor costs and the City pays for material costs such as plants and soil, up to $1,000. For rain barrels: the City will reimburse the participant up to $125, not to exceed the price of the rain barrel. This program has limited funding and is available on a first-come first-served basis according to application date until funds run out. The program is not open to commercial properties. Applications will be approved/denied based on application content, site suitability, and program-fund availability. Rain gardens and permeable pavements shall be installed by a licensed contractor pre-approved by the City. Design and location shall be reviewed by the City. Rain garden designs and installations shall follow the Rain Garden Design Manual for Western Washington and permeable pavements shall follow the 2012 Low Impact Development Technical Guidance Manual for Western Washington. Properties shall be located within City of Puyallup limits. Rain barrels shall be pre-made; materials for construction of ‘homemade’ barrels do not qualify for reimbursement.
