Puyallup Police Department Vacation House Check Program The Puyallup Police Department provides free vacation house checks for citizens. This service is staffed by Puyallup Police Department Explorers and Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS), who will come out to your residence and perform an inspection of your property while you are away. The vacation check entails a visual inspection of your home, outbuildings, vehicles, gates, lighting, and the general security of the home in accordance with the request. Whenever a vacation check reveals something suspicious, Explorers and VIPS are trained to leave the immediate area and request a patrol officer be dispatched to investigate further. A log is kept of the activity conducted on your property while you are away. If, by chance, there is an incident at your residence while you are away, the individual you specify as your emergency contact will be notified. The Vacation House Check Program is a voluntary, free service that does not create a special duty upon the City of Puyallup. The service is performed on an “as time permits” basis, and the City of Puyallup makes no guarantee that the check will be performed, or that loss, theft or damage to property will be prevented by participation in the program. Program Guidelines: • For City of Puyallup residents only. • For vacations of a minimum of five days and a maximum of ninety (90) days. • For residential properties only. Business locations, vacant properties, homes for sale and homes with a house sitter or other guest(s) staying in the home are not eligible for vacation checks. • Applications must be submitted at least one week (7 days) before your departure. Telephone requests for vacation checks will not be accepted. • If your travel plans change, please contact Crime Prevention Services at (253) 841- 5531. The information you provide will help us reach you or your emergency contact should we identify a problem, and verify information and identity of others who have access to your home.
