City of Puyallup Register of Historic Places – Photo Requirements for Historic Register Nominations Photos submitted should be clear and provide accurate representation of the property, its significant features and any alterations that may have impacted the property’s integrity. They may also show how the property fits into the local community or environment. The necessary number of photographs depends on the size and complexity of the project. Prints of historic photographs or maps may also be submitted if available. Digital Camera Film Camera Camera Type Acceptable: 5 megapixel or higher, point and shoot or SLR Not Acceptable: camera phones, digital cameras with fewer than 5 megapixels of resolution, Polaroid instant cameras Acceptable: most film cameras Not Acceptable: disposable, single use cameras Image Format Set the camera for the highest image quality possible. RAW, TIFF, or JPG are acceptable. Needs to be set at a minimum at 300 dpi. DO NOT digitally “correct” photos after they are taken. No adjustments to light, dark, etc. Photos need to be submitted as is. Black & white film with a low ASA (100 or lower is preferred) to prevent graininess Naming Digital Files Use a standard naming format, the common or historic name of the property, and the image number. Example: Johnson Farm_1, Johnson Farm_2, etc Not applicable Burning the Images to a Disk A CD or DVD containing all the images must accompany the nomination. Do not use disks that are packaged with a RW (“rewriteable”) on the label. Label the disk with a permanent marker or other DVD/CD safe marker. Do not use an adhesive label. Disks should have property name and date on them. Not applicable Printing Images Images should be 4x6 or larger, and should be printed in black and white. Images need to be printed by a photo lab. Images printed on a home computer are not acceptable. Images should be 4x6 or larger Identifying Photographs Each photograph should be numbered and the number should correspond to a number on a photo log.
