Both will be recognized at a ceremony on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 4:00pm in the City of Puyallup Council Chambers located on the 5th floor of City Hall, 333 South Meridian. Key Facts  On the early afternoon of August 11, 2015, Puyallup Police Officers responded to an active shooter incident in the southwest portion of the city.  The suspect attempted to carjack a truck and shot the victim, Richard Johnson, when he confronted the suspect. Mr. Johnson did not survive.  The suspect fled on foot firing randomly at citizens that he encountered. ---PAGE BREAK--- Our mission is to work in partnership with the community to support a safe environment and to reduce crime and the fear of crime. We value S.E.R.V.I.C.E. – safety* ethics* respect* vigilance* integrity* compassion*excellence.  Puyallup Police Officers arrived on scene and the suspect fired on them.  The suspect was successful in carjacking a vehicle and led police on a high speed chase.  Officer Wilson (he was later assigned as a detective) intercepted the suspect vehicle and was immediately fired upon by the suspect. Officer Wilson did not retreat and continued to pursue the suspect without regard for his own personal safety.  The suspect was involved in a collision at Fairview and 9th Ave. SW. The suspect’s vehicle was disabled and he attempted to carjack another vehicle firing directly into the vehicle, narrowly missing the driver. Puyallup officers pursued him on foot.  Detective Scott Bramhall fired two rounds from his duty pistol from a distance of approximately 80 yards knocking the suspect to the ground.  Officer Wilson noticed that the suspect was attempting to retrieve his handgun and drove his police SUV onto the suspect’s legs to keep him from reaching the weapon. This allowed other officers to take the suspect into custody without further loss of life.
