PARK COUNTY CEMETERY BURIAL POLICIES The policies of Park County relating to the operation of county owned and/or managed cemeteries are established by the Board of County Commissioners. A Cemetery Board, composed of ten (10) members of the community and two ex-officio members has been appointed to advise the Board of County Commissioners. The cemetery Board shall act as managers of the County cemeteries with the approval of the Board of County Commissioners. The burial of any human body outside of a County cemetery shall be permitted only with the written consent of the landowner, and under such regulations that may be deemed necessary to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the public, and in compliance with State statues. A burial permit must be filed with the County Clerk and Recorder and the County Coroner must be notified. The following policies shall apply to all burials within Park County owned cemeteries: I. The four cemeteries that have been designated to be represented by the Cemetery Board are: Horn Cemetery (Bailey), Lake George Cemetery, Como Cemetery and Bordenville Cemetery (CO RD 77 - 12 miles south of Jefferson) II. To be eligible for burial within a Park County owned cemetery one of the following is required: a. Primary residence in Park County for five years. b. Tax payer in Park County for five years. c. Or a request in granted in writing by the Cemetery Board. III. A burial permit must be filed and recorded with the Park County Clerk and Recorder a. Burial permit must be filed at the County Clerks office in Fairplay. IV. Authority to open and close a grave site: a. Only the County Road and Bridge Department has the authority to prepare a grave or cremains site. b. There shall be a charge for this service. This amount shall be determined periodically and will be based on the cost to the county to prepare the site. (Currently the cost is between $400 and $2,000) c. In case of family hardship, the Cemetery Board has the authority to discharge the fee for site preparation. V. Burial site location: a. When notified that there is a need for a grave, a member of the Cemetery Board will determine the location of the site to be used. b. The Cemetery Board member will notify the County Road and Bridge as to the site location selected. 1
