Care in Palmdale. WHEN: TODAY, Friday, June 16, 10:30 am. WHERE: 2072 East Palmdale Blvd, Palmdale. WHO: Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford; Palmdale City Councilmembers and staff; local Chambers of Commerce; and L. A. Care staff. BACKGROUND: Established in 1997, L.A. Care Health Plan is an independent public agency created by the state of California to provide health coverage to low-income Los Angeles County residents. They are the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan. Serving more than 2 million members in five health plans, they make sure their members get the right care at the right place at the right time. They offer a variety of affordable health plans for the diverse communities of Los Angeles. They health plans provide access to a wide network of local doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies. The 7,000 square foot center in Palmdale will deliver culturally appropriate health education services and programs with an emphasis on chronic disease management, prevention of asthma, diabetes, and weight management (obesity prevention). Family Resource Center (FRC) activities will focus on self-management tools, disease prevention tips, and promote wellness and healthy living for community residents. The FRC will also offer assistance in applying for free and low-cost health care coverage to residents throughout the region.
