BACKGROUND: Yellen Park is approximately 25 acres in size, and is located at the southwest corner of Avenue S and Hillcrest Drive (52nd Street East). The land was donated to the City of Palmdale by the Yellen family. The amenities include an open play field area with ball field lighting, adventure play structure, exercise equipment, walkway with path lighting, dog park and restrooms. To provide the public with nice shady areas to enjoy their park experience, six new 15’ x 20’ shade structures will be installed over existing picnic tables. Two will be in the dog park and four will adjacent to the playground. The project was awarded at the August 7, 2018 Palmdale City Council meeting to R.E. Schultz Construction, Inc. out of Orange, CA in the amount of $63,447 to install the shade structures. The City had previously bought the structures from RecWest, in the amount of $61,379. Total estimated cost of the shade structures and installation is approximately $127,000. The project is currently funded with $153,000 of Los Angeles County Proposition A funds and $50,000 of City Park Development Fees.
