Le Guin, Monday, May 21st, at 7 pm, at the library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd. Originally published in 1969, The Left Hand of Darkness has been considered a groundbreaking intellectual science fiction novel encompassing themes of society, and human emotion. The story of a human emissary aiming to associate with an alien world whose inhabitants can choose and change their gender, the novel develops as he attempts to bridge the divide between his own understandings and the ethos of the dissimilar culture. The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
