Palmdale Blvd., will host a showing of the featured film Akeelah and the Bee rated PG, on Wednesday Aug. 15, at 5:30 pm. Admission and popcorn are free. Akeelah, an 11-year-old girl living in South Los Angeles, discovers she has a talent for spelling, which she hopes will take her to the National Spelling Bee. Despite her mother's objections, Akeelah doesn't give up on her goal. She finds help in the form of a mysterious teacher, and along with overwhelming support from her community, Akeelah might just have what it takes to make her dream come true. The Library hosts a free showing of featured films every Wednesday evening. Movies scheduled to be shown include The Greatest Showman (PG) on Aug. 22, and Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken on Aug. 29. This program is made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Palmdale City Library. The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
