FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CITY OF PALMDALE NEWS RELEASE CONTACT: John Mlynar PHONE: 661/267-5115 DATE: April 18, 2017 City of Palmdale to Host Global Youth Service Day Event PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale will host its sixth “Season of Service” event for 2017, with a Global Youth Service Day on Saturday, April 22 from 8 am to noon at Ave. R-8 and 43rd St, East (next to Mesquite Elementary) for a desert clean up. Registration begins at 8 am and the project will commence at 8:30 am. “We’re encouraging youth and the young at heart to join youth around the work in celebrating International Global Youth Service Day by giving back to their community,” said Palmdale’s Community Programs Supervisor Trish Jones. “We’re going to clean up an area of the desert next to one of our elementary schools for our project.” Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must complete a Release of Liability (available at www.cityofpalmdale.org or at event registration). Participants should wear close-toed shoes and be prepared/able to walk over uneven terrain, bring work gloves and use sun protection. Water will be provided. Verification of service hours is available. The remaining 2017 Season of Service events include: Stamp Out Hunger - Saturday, May 13, 2017 Community Partner: United States Postal Service Location: SAVES, 1002 East Avenue Q-12, Palmdale Time: Varied. Stamp Out Hunger---Part 2 - Saturday, May 20, 2017 Community Partner: United States Postal Service Location: SAVES, 1002 East Avenue Q-12, Palmdale ---PAGE BREAK--- Time: Registration from 8 to 8:30 am. Help SAVES process donations from the Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive for community distribution. Last year, Palmdale residents donated over 40,000 hours of service towards making Palmdale an even better place to live.
