Palmdale Blvd., will host a series of events during the week of Oct. 15 through 21 to celebrate National Friends of Libraries Week. Throughout the week, there will be a special ‘Friends’ display, a membership drive, and a writing and drawing contest. The celebration will include week-long activities and one- day events held in the library, including: • Free Friendship Bracelet craft making on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 4 pm for kids of all ages. • Author Panel with local authors on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 pm. • Book Sale & Winner’s Ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 21. The book sale will run from 10am to 3 pm and the Winner’s Ceremony will take place at 4 pm. The Friends of the Palmdale City Library were established in 1977 and have raised over $200,000 for the Palmdale City Library to date. Currently, they consist of a small group who actively volunteer their time to assist with fundraising efforts. "The library has always played such an important role in my life," said President of the Friends Tina Victory. “I truly enjoy giving back and being an active member of this group is fun!” Other officers of the organization are Margo Carunida, Membership; Frank Evans, Treasurer and Ways & Means; Elizabeth Cabrera, Secretary; Barbara Carson, Director at Large; Betty Schlaechter, Historian; and Polly Spencer, Telephone Committee. ---PAGE BREAK--- “The Palmdale City Library Board of Trustees, our parent organization Library Systems and Services and Library staff sincerely appreciates all the work and support that our Friends group willingly provides,” said Palmdale City Library Director Robert Shupe. “We are very happy to partner with them for this week full of events and activities as part of National Friends of the Library Week!” The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
