Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes January 18, 2024 1 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Beverly Baker Vice-Chair. Location, Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the November 2023 meeting minutes and the January 2024 agenda were provided. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Beverly Baker, Vice-chair, Alice Lübbers, Secretary, Greg Cardarelli, Jerry Paradise, Jerry Dumont, and Stephen Hall. Absent: Bruce Cox, Chair, Dina Williamson-Erdag, and Eddie Williams. All were excused. Commissioner Frank Carbone and Jimmy Martinez were present. No Public members were in attendance. 3. Approval of the Agenda for January 18, 2024. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Stephen Hall seconded. Motion was approved. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). No Public present. 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes for the November 16, 2023. Beverly Baker stated Martha Dumont’s last name was incorrectly written in the Announcement section. Her last name is Wilson, not Dumont. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to accept the minutes as written except for Martha Wilson’s last name. Stephen Hall seconded. Motion was approved. 6. Announcements (First) • All committee members are currently in compliance with membership renewal. • Mandatory Annual Open Meeting Law training date has not been announced. Training is usually provided in January/February time frame. Please keep your schedules open. • March 23rd Baker to Vegas fun run. • Dina will be absent January thru March. Will return for April’s meeting. Jerry P. and Jerry D. will move to the active member positions. ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes January 18, 2024 2 • Wreaths Across America wreath stands worked very well. Thank you, Jerry Paradise. 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out-of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman or Activities Coordinators. None. 8. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). Beverly Baker stated the 2024 Memorial Day event planning is progressing. She will continue to provide updates. According to Jimmy Martinez, the glass cabinet funding is in the approval process. He does not have a completion date. He will continue to update the committee as to funding and order status. 9. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. Jimmy Stated the Home Depot Bronze plaque will be ordered tomorrow, January 19, 2024. 10. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding Veterans Advisory Committee officer elections. The Chairman, Vice-chair, and Secretary positions were nominated, discussed, and voted. The results: Bruce Cox will remain as Chairman, Beverly Baker will remain Vice- chair, and Alice Lübbers will remain as Secretary. Voting procedures were as follows: the nominees were asked to leave the room during the voting process. Note: Bruce Cox was absent however he had previously stated he would accept another term as Chairman. Each member was provided voting ballot tokens marked with the letter for yes and for no. The selected token was placed in a paper bag and given to the vice chair for a vote tally. The secretary counted the tokens for the Beverly Baker Vice-chair voting. 11. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation for the Annual Thank You BBQ for the Building and Grounds Crew. Members were informed a “yes” vote will incur a $25.00 cost for each member. The BBQ date is October 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Veterans Building. ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes January 18, 2024 3 Greg Cardarelli made the motion to provide the Annual Grounds Crew Thank You BBQ. Jerry Paradise seconded. Motion was approved. 12. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second). Jimmy Martinez stated the Veterans Building will have motion lights installed on the outside of the building. No date was provided. 13. COMMITTEE COMENTS (Second). None. 14. ANNOUNCEMENTS (Second). • The Annual Cles Saunders Memorial Veterans Extravaganza is March 1st at the Bob Rudd center, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. • The next meeting of the PVMAC: February 22, 2024, at the Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa cemetery. • Addendum, Stephen Hall announced the National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29, 2024. He will provide additional details at the February meeting. 15. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned by Vice-Chairman Beverly Baker at 4:22 p.m.
