Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes March 21, 2024 1 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Beverly Baker Vice-Chair. Location, Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the February 2024 meeting minutes, the March 2024 agenda, and the February 2024 updated Sub-Committee assignments were provided. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Beverly Baker, Vice-chair, Alice Lübbers, Secretary, Jerry Paradise, Jerry Dumont, and Stephen Hall. Absent: Bruce Cox, Chair, Dina Williamson-Erdag, Greg Cardarelli and Eddie Williams. All were excused. Commissioner Frank Carbone and Jimmy Martiez were present. One member of the Public was in attendance, Carl Jones. 3. Approval of the Agenda for March 21, 2024. Jerry Paradise made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Stephen Hall seconded. Motion was approved. No public comment. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). No Public input. 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes for the February 15, 2024. Jerry Paradise made the motion to accept the minutes as written. Stephen Hall seconded. Motion was approved. No public comment. 6. Announcements (First) • Mandatory Annual Open Meeting Law training dates were announced and emailed to each member via a Town Administrator. Please make your reservations and attend. • March 23rd Baker to Vegas fun run. Avoid traveling to Las Vegas via 172 and Baker CA. Traffic will be one lane with significant delays. • Dina will be absent January thru March. Will return for April’s meeting. Jerry P. and Jerry D. will move to the active member positions. • Stephen Hall: National Vietnam War Veterans Day March 29th. No further updates. • Veterans Extravaganza March 1st at the Rudd Center was well attended and appreciated by veterans and their families. ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes March 21, 2024 2 • Memorial Day event is Monday, May 27th 10:00 - 12:00 • Memorial Day Flag placement 24 May 2024 at the cemetery. We will meet at 9:00. Need volunteers. 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out-of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman or Activities Coordinators. None 8. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). Beverly Baker stated the 2024 Memorial Day event planning is progressing. The Event program outline will include a dog tag ceremony and wreath placement. Bruce Cox will Emcee. A singer for the National Anthem is needed. The Fire department will have a truck on site with the American flag suspended from the ladder extension. Stephen Hall will provide the opening prayer and taps. Beverly will continue to provide updates. Jimmy Martinez stated the funding for the glass cabinet and the audio Sound system have been approved. He will keep the committee updated with the order status of both items. Jerry Paradise stated 220 additional wreath stands have been painted. He also made 13-inch-tall stands for the War Memorial Walk location. Extra height was needed to keep the flags from touching the ground. 9. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. The Home Depot Bronze plaque has arrived. Alice Lübbers stated Bruce Cox has requested the plaque be presented to Home Depot at the beginning of the Memorial Day program. No public comment. 10. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding 911 Flag donation. Beverly Baker presented on behalf Greg Cardarelli. Greg Cardarelli has requested his 911 US flag be considered as a permanent display at the Veterans Building. Beverly Baker showed the flag to the committee. The flag has the names of all 911 victims that were killed (Pentagon, airplane crash, and The World Trade Center). All committee members liked the flag and wanted to accept it as a permanent donation. Jimmy ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes March 21, 2024 3 Martinez suggested the flag be placed in a shadow box as opposed to a picture frame. Alice Lübbers made the motion to accept the flag as a permanent donation, placed in a shadow box frame, and displayed inside the Veterans building. Jerry Paradise seconded. Motion was approved. Jimmy has the flag and will look into the cost of a shadow box frame. No public comment. 11. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second). None. No Public input. 12. COMMITTEE COMENTS (Second). The AED machine (donated by the Pahrump DAVA) was given to Jimmy Martinez by Beverly Baker. Jimmy will attach the machine to a wall in the lobby area at a future date. 13. ANNOUNCEMENTS (Second). The next meeting is scheduled for April 18th, 4:00pm at the Veterans Building 14. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned by Vice-Chairman Beverly Baker at 4:30.
