1 TOWN OF PAHRUMP RESOLUTION NO. 2022-05 2 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING OPERATION GREEN LIGHT FOR VETERANS 3 WHEREAS, Town of Pahrump has great respect, admiration, and the utmost gratitude for all of 4 the men and women who have selflessly served our Country and this community in the Armed Forces; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, the contributions and sacrifices of the men and women who served in the Armed 7 Forces have been vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by our citizens; and 8 WHEREAS, the Town of Pahrump seeks to honor these individuals who have paid the high pricc 9 for freedom by placing themselves in harm’s way for the good of all; and 10 WHEREAS, Veterans continue to serve our community in the American Legion, Veterans of 11 Foreign Wars, religious groups, civil service, and by functioning as County Veteran Service Officers in 12 29 states to help fellow former service members access more than $52 billion in federal health, disability 13 and compensation benefits each year; and 14 WHEREAS, Approximately 200,000 Armed Forces Service Members transition to civilian 15 communities annually; and 16 WHEREAS, an estimated 20 percent increase of Armed Forces Service Members will transition 17 to civilian life in the near future; and 18 WHEREAS, studies indicate that 44-72 percent of Armed Forces Service Members experience 19 high levels of stress during transition from military life to civilian life; and 20 WHEREAS, Armed Forces Service Members transitioning from military service are at a high 21 risk for suicide during their first year after military service; and 22 WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties encourages all counties, parishes and 23 boroughs to recognize Operation Green Light for Veterans; and 24 WHEREAS, Town of Pahrump appreciates the sacrifices of our Armed Forces Service Members 25 and believes specific recognition should be granted; Resolution 2022-05 Supporting Operation Green Light for Veterans ---PAGE BREAK--- 1 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, with designation as a Green Light for Veterans, the 2 Nye County Board of County Commissioners sitting as the governing board of the Town of Pabrump, 3 hereby declares from October through Veterans Day, November 1 2022, a time to salute and honor 4 the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform transitioning from Active Service; 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in observance of Operation Green Light, the Nye County 6 Board of County Commissioners sitting as the governing board of the Town of Pahrump, encourages its 7 citizens in patriotic tradition to recognize the importance of honoring all those who made immeasurable 8 sacrifices to preserve freedom by displaying a green light in a window of their place of business or 9 residence. 10 APPROVED this 1st day of November, 2022.
