Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes June 20, 2024 1 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Bruce Cox, Chairman. Location: Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the May 2024 meeting minutes and the June 2024 agenda were provided. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Bruce Cox, Chair, Beverly Baker, Vice-chair, Alice Lübbers, Secretary, Jerry Paradise, and Jerry Dumont. Absent: Greg Cardarelli, Stephen Hall, Dina Williamson-Erdag, and Eddie Williams. All were excused. Commissioner Frank Carbone was present. Jimmy Martiez and Courtney Kenney (Building and Grounds personnel) were present. No Public attendees. 3. Approval of the Agenda for June 20, 2024. Jerry Paradise made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Beverly Baker seconded. Motion was approved. No public comment. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). None. 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes of May 16, 2024. Jerry Dumont made the motion to accept the minutes as written. Beverly Baker seconded. Motion was approved. No public comment. 6. Announcements (First). • Memorial Day Event was great. The Nye Couty Sheriff’s office thanked the committee for honoring them. • Many thanks to everyone for volunteering for Memorial Day flag detail. • Home Depot loved the bronze plaque and thanked the committee for acknowledging their contributions. • Sheriff McGill thanked the committee for the Veterans Memorial coaster and pen. • The Flag mailbox has been emptied. ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes June 20, 2024 2 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out- of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman, or Activities Coordinators. None. 8. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). • Glass Cabinet and 911 Flag project updates by Jimmy Martinez. The glass cabinet funding was approved earlier today. He will place the order soon. No ETA for delivery dates yet. The 911 Flag shadow box materials are being inventoried. Building and Grounds crew will make the shadow box. No ETA for the box completion was provided. Beverly Baker reminded Jimmy the flag needed to be carefully ironed before being placed in the box. Jimmy stated he would pay close attention to any flag wrinkles and keep her informed. 9. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. None. 10. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding a new structure to hold the outdoor glass marquee and other items. The marquee was located on the right side of the front doors of the old building. Jimmy Martenez requested the marquee not be mounted on the new building. Alice Lübbers discussed one possible structure to house the glass marquee. Two posts with a small roof, like a National Park Kiosk. She asked members to come up with ideas, pictures, drawings, etc. for the July meeting. 11. Discuss October Thank you BBQ for Building and Grounds crew on Thursday October 24, 2024. The date is October 24th, Thursday 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Menu: Hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ beans, chips, macaroni salad, sodas, water, and brownies for dessert. This is a voluntary activity. Donations from members are $25.00 each. Please give your donation to Jerry Paradise by the September meeting. 12. General Public Comment (second). None. 13. Committee Comment (second). Bruce Cox stated a day to honor Veterans was conducted Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Allegiant stadium. The event was sponsored by “CityServe”. It was a phenomenal event and everything was first class. The Raiders team owner, Mark Davis, Nike, and other sponsors/donors went out of their way to thank and honor all Veterans. All attendees had a fabulous fun filled day. 15. The next meeting of the PVMAC; July 18, 2024, 4:00 PM, at the Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa cemetery. 16. Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned by Bruce Cox, Chairman at 4:30 p.m.
