Page 1 April 18, 2019 Pursuant to NRS, a meeting of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee was held on April 18, 2019 at 4:00 pm at the Bob Ruud Community Center, 150 NV-160, Rm A, Pahrump, NV 89048. 1. Pledge of Allegiance ● The meeting was called to order by Committee Chair Carl Jones at 4:00pm and the Pledge was recited. 2. Roll Call ● Present: Carl Jones, Ken Hoskin, Alice Lubbers, Beverly Baker, Greg Cardarelli, Ashley Hall, Michelle Blodgett, and visitors Jannis and Cles Saunders. ● Absent: Dina Williamson-Erdag (excused) 3. Approval of the Agenda for April 18, 2019. ● Alice Lubbers made motion to approve agenda as written, Beverly Baker seconded. All present approved. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (first). ● No public present. 5. For Possible Action – Discussion and Deliberation – approval of minutes of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee, meeting of March 21 2019. ● Alice Lubbers made a motion to approve minutes, Greg Cardarelli seconded, all present approved. 6. Announcements (first) ● Ashley Hall announced that April 20th, Earth Day will be at Discovery part from 11am-3pm. ● Ashley Hall announced that the SAFE program will be partnering with the Red Rover Fitness program to bring an obstacle course race to Pahrump for all elementary aged children. Race will be April 27th at the 4-H Annex at 3pm. ● Beverly Baker announced that the DAV is hosting a BBQ at the DAV clinic April 19th and new benches will be displayed. Event will be from 10am-2pm. ● Beverly Baker announced that they are meeting with the Town Tourism Department to help host the Tour of Honor event as Pahrump will be on of their stops. Alex will be approaching the Pahrump Nugget to have welcome bags for riders when the tourism office is closed on weekends or evenings. ● Carl Jones announced that Shoshone Propane is setting up a plan for individuals to pay propane They have forms to sign if anyone is interested. 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and Deliberation – approval of past actions on out-of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman or Activities Coordinator. ● Alice Lubbers announced that the Marine Corps League has booked an event on ---PAGE BREAK--- Page 2 April 18, 2019 Memorial day, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day. The DAV is also doing a sundown event on Memorial Day. 8. Committee Comments (This item is limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). • Michelle Blodgett announced that she will let the committee know as soon as she finds out about the next Open Meeting Law training. 9. For Possible Action – regarding certificates of appreciation and plaques to be presented from the PVMAC. • Ashley Hall made a motion to give Richard Goldstein a certificate of appreciation for his service to the committee. No second. Motion died. 10. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding updates of the following PVMAC projects/subcommittees: Storage building project, Memorial Benches, Boulder Project, & Advertising and Sales. ● Carl Jones met with Matt Lewis to get paperwork in order. He has a few questions that he needs answered but those are being answered and he will turn in the paperwork. Matt was able to get a third bid. Carl will complete the paperwork and run it by Matt before turning it in tomorrow or Monday. ● Carl Jones updated the committee on the Memorial benches. The price for one bench is $1,039, and shipping for 8 benches is $1,500 which equal $187.50 per bench. Shipping the benches in a load is a cheaper option. Lettering is not included in that price – but costs $1 per 1” letter which includes sandblasting and paint. Carl Jones created a draft Memorial Bench form that Ashley Hall will add pictures to. Carl suggested that we flood the market with flyers to hopefully get enough benches for an order of 8. ● Advertising and sales will focus on memorial benches which will be updated next meeting. ● Alice Lubber announced that Rick from Written in Stone was able to locate and procure a boulder that is the correct color. Alice and Beverly gave Rick the go- ahead to complete the project. Matt Lewis will be informed so he can be involved in boulder placement. We are hopeful that it will be placed by Memorial Day. 11. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding Honor Tour Pahrump visit. • Alice Lubbers informed the committee about a tour that will be ongoing from April until October 31st. The Tourism committee and Tom Waters are all involved. There will be a welcome banner as well. Alice will also ensure that riders have access to the Memorial study guide – including directing them to the library to pick one up. 12. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding updates on Wreaths Across America project. • Carl Jones contacted two ladies from the program and neither were in charge so he is still waiting for someone in charge to get back to him. He has questions that need to be answered regarding liability before we can move forward. ---PAGE BREAK--- Page 3 April 18, 2019 13. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding applications for Cles and Jannis Saunders – potential committee members. • Beverly Baker made a motion to accept both Cles and Jannis Saunders’ applications to be alternate members of the Pahrump Veteran Memorial Advisory Committee. Alice Lubbers seconded. All present approved. 14. General Public Comment (second). ● No public present. 15. Announcements (second). ● Carl Jones would like Michelle to introduce herself to the committee. She did so. ● Alice Lubbers announced that the Golden Knights are playing at 7:05 tonight and that a Las Vegas man is competing on Jeopardy. ● Greg Cardarelli announced that at the meeting for the DAV he was honored and humbled with the Butch Harper Act of Kindness award in front of Deanna with her local TV camera recording. 16. ADJOURN ● Carl Jones announced that the next meeting is May 16th at 4:00 pm at the Bob Ruud Community Center and adjourned the meeting at 5:00 pm.
