Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes February 15, 2024 1 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Beverly Baker Vice-Chair. Location, Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the January 2024 meeting minutes, the February 2024 agenda, and Sub-Committee assignments were provided. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Beverly Baker, Vice-chair, Alice Lübbers, Secretary, Greg Cardarelli, Jerry Paradise, and Stephen Hall. Absent: Bruce Cox, Chair, Dina Williamson-Erdag, Jerry Dumont and Eddie Williams. All were excused. Commissioner Frank Carbone was present. No Public members were in attendance. 3. Approval of the Agenda for February 15, 2024. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Jerry Paradise seconded. Motion was approved. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). No Public present. 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes for the January 18, 2024. Stephen Hall made the motion to accept the minutes as written. Greg Cardarelli seconded. Motion was approved. 6. Announcements (First) • Mandatory Annual Open Meeting Law training date has not been announced. Training will be provided in March. Please keep your schedules open. • March 23rd Baker to Vegas fun run • Dina will be absent January thru March. Will return for April’s meeting. Jerry P. and Jerry D. will move to the active member positions. • Stephen Hall: National Vietnam War Veterans Day March 29th • Veterans Extravaganza March 1st at the Rudd Center 10:00 – 2:00 • Memorial Day event is May 27th 10:00 - 12:00 • Memorial Day Flag placement 24 May 2024 9:00 Need volunteers. ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes February 15, 2024 2 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out-of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman or Activities Coordinators. None 8. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). Beverly Baker stated the 2024 Memorial Day event planning is progressing. Sheriff McGill will be the guest speaker. The program will focus on military veterans and our local men and women in blue. Beverly will continue to provide updates. According to Jimmy Martinez regarding the glass cabinet funding. He is still waiting on the funding status. No time frame available. Wreath stands painting and ribbon replacements. Jerry Paradise is painting the approximately 220 unpainted wreath stands. The Silver Tappers, Jerry, and Alice will coordinate the wreath ribbon replacement project and continue to update the committee on status. 9. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. The Home Depot Bronze plaque has been ordered. Delivery date is 6 to 8 weeks. Possible plaque presentation will be at the start of the Memorial Day event. 10. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding Sub-Committee assignments. The current list of Sub-Committee assignments was reviewed. See attached document for changes. 11. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation for the Home Depot bronze plaque placement location on the Veterans Building. The committee members relocated the meeting to the outside of the building. Committee members agreed to locate the Home Depot plaque and the other two previously donated plaques on the pergola side, in between the two light sconces, and evenly spaced between the vertical building slats. Alice Lübbers will meet with Jimmy to mark the plaque locations. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to accept the committee agreed plaque locations. Stephen Hall seconded. Greg Cardarelli will bring a very special US flag for a possible “permanent” donated item to the March meeting. 14. ANNOUNCEMENTS (Second). The next meeting is scheduled for March 21st 4:00 at the Veterans Building 15.
