Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes October 19, 2023 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Bruce Cox, Chairman. Location, Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the September 2023 meeting minutes, October 2023 agenda, and a picture of a glass cabinet (sample) were provided. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Bruce Cox, Chair, Beverly Baker, Vice-chair, Alice Lübbers, Secretary, Greg Cardarelli, Jerry Paradise, Jerry Dumont, Dina Williamson- Erdag, Jimmy Martinez, Building and Grounds supervisor, and Commissioner Frank Carbone were present. Absent: Eddie Williams, excused. Stephen Hall, unexcused. No Public members were in attendance. 3. Approval of the Agenda for October 19, 2023. Beverly Baker made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Greg Cardarelli seconded. Motion was approved. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). No Public present. 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes of September 21, 2023. Beverly Baker made the motion to accept the minutes as written. Greg Cardarelli seconded. Motion was approved. 6. Announcements (First) • Annual Thank You BBQ, Thursday, October 26th. Members meet 10:00 - 2:00. Food served from 11:00 – 1:00 • Veterans Day graveside flag placement; Thursday, November 9th. Need volunteers. We will meet at 9:00am at the Memorial. • Annual DAV Veterans Day Sundown event November 11th from 3:00 - 4:30 • No Committee meeting for December due to the holidays. • Stephen Hall’s committee membership. Application was approved by the commissioners per Frank Carbone • Eddie Williams will be TDY for several months. ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes October 19, 2023 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out-of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman or Activities Coordinators. None 8. Committee Comments (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshops/agendas). • Alice Lübbers provided glass cabinet vendor information to Jimmy Martinez which included pricing information and a sample picture of a glass cabinet. • Jerry Paradise thanked committee members for their donations to the “Thank You BBQ” for the Building and Grounds crew. He had collected $190.00 dollars for the event. 9. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. Provide Home Depot, Pahrump with an exterior wall- mounted “Bronze Plaque” for their contributions and donations for the Veterans Memorial. Alice Lübbers requested the committee consider a bronze plaque for the Pahrump Home Depot. They have donated approximately, $25,000 for project improvements over the past several years. Beverly Baker made the motion to provide Home Depot with a bronze plaque. Greg Cardarelli seconded. Motion was approved. 10. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation to submit an agenda request to the Board of County Commissioners, serving at the Pahrump Town Board, to a) review and update the Chief Tecopa Cemetery tri-fold published by Pahrump Tourism, and b) create a QR standing card that will direct viewers to documents on the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee’s webpage that will provide information about the Memorial Wall, Memorial Bench Donations, Columbarium’s, Donation Wall, and the War Memorial Park Walk, all located within the Veterans Section of the Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Dina Williamson-Erdag briefed committee members with the above listed information. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to approve QR standing card, donations, and financing. Jerry Paradise seconded. Motion passed. 11. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second). None ---PAGE BREAK--- Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes October 19, 2023 12. COMMITTEE COMENTS (Second). Jerry Paradise provided an update on the wreath stand project. Home Depot donated a gallon of paint and paint sticks. He further stated the “Robotics” club of the local 4H chapter have offered to paint the Christmas wreath stands. 10 kids and 2 adult supervisors will be painting the wreath stands. The painting party will be Thursday, November 2nd at the 4H building, 3:30 - 5:30. 13. ANNOUNCEMENTS (Second). • Dina Williamson-Erdag provided a flyer from Living Free Health and Fitness center announcing their annual charity event. Date; Saturday, November 4th 5:00pm, at the Pahrump Nugget casino. • Bruce Cox announced the Veterans of Pahrump Banner program is now accepting applications. Contact the Pahrump Town office for information and applications. • Alice Lübbers stated she will email members a sample picture of the glass cabinet and the suggested phrasing for the Home Depot bronze plaque. • The next meeting of the PVMAC; November 16, 2023, at the Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa cemetery. 14.
