PAHRUMP TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT July 15, 2021 Pursuant to NRS, a meeting of the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee was held at 8:00AM on March 11, 2021 in the Board of County Commission Chamber Pahrump, NV. 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 8:02 a.m. by Chairman James Horton in the Board of County Commission Chamber. 2. Roll Call Attendees: PTAC members - James Horton, Karen Spalding, Jack Sanders, Kellie Graham, Tim Burke, Vicki Gladsjo and Deanna O’Donnell. Debbie Davis excused. Tourism Director - Arlette Ledbetter and Alex Crow, Executive Assistant, Frank Carbone, Nye County BOCC Liaison and Bob Adams, Pahrump OHV Tourism Ambassador. 3. Approval of the Agenda for July 15, 2021 Move Item #8 to take place after 9:00 a.m. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person). Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item. (FIRST) None 5. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION - Discussion and Deliberation of Minutes of the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee meeting of May 13, 2021. Karen Spalding moved to approve the minutes of the May 13, 2021 meeting with suggested changes to Items #5 and Motion was second by Vicki Gladsjo and approved unanimously. 6. ANNOUNCEMENTS (FIRST) Committee member Tim Burke gave an update on Nevada legislation regarding Winery and Brewery rules and regulations. 7. COMMITTEE COMMENTS (This item limited to announcements or topics/issues proposed for future workshop/agendas) None 8. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and Deliberation regarding the Tourism Director’s updates, activity reports and projects. Arlette Ledbetter reported on the great responses the office has received regarding the public’s comments on the changes made in Stockman’s Steakhouse. She explained the effects Covid-19 Pandemic has had on tourism statewide as well as in Pahrump. Arlette, also, emphasized the positive, new opportunities resulting, because of the pandemic such as new statewide Destination ---PAGE BREAK--- Page 2 PAHRUMP TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT July 15, 2021 offices, additional grant writing, advertising possibilities. She, also, announced new marketing strategies. Arlette discussed Front Site marketing. Alex Crow followed with a social media report. She requested committee members and the public continue to submit new information to post. Alex announced the exciting things going on with the planning of the Fall Festival. 9. FOR DISCUSSION ONLY- Presentation of an honorary plaque in memory of former PTAC member and tourism volunteer, Ambrose Kroetsch. James Horton and Arlette spoke of the importance of Ambrose Kroetsch was to Pahrump and the Tourism Committee. The plaque that will be given to his family was displayed. 10. FOR DISCUSSION ONLY- Presentation and video by Bob Adams, Pahrump OHV Tourism Ambassador and James Horton on how to make the Polaris Ride Command app work for your property Prior to showing the video, Bob Adams gave an updated report on the trails and public land activities. James Horton explained the need to educate the public on the trails available to them and how the Polaris Ride Command can be a benefit to the businesses and the public. This need resulted in the making of the video. Video presentation followed and resulted in positive comments . 11. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION – Discussion and Deliberation to amend the minutes of the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Committee meeting of February 6, 2020. Karen Spalding moved to approve the following amended motions: Karen Spalding moved to recommend to the Nye County BOCC approval of James Horton to fill a seat on the PTAC for a term from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024. Jack Sanders moved to recommend to the Nye County BOCC approval of Karen Spalding to fill a seat on the PTAC for a term from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024. Karen Spalding moved to recommend to the Nye County BOCC approval of Tim Burke to fill a seat on the PTAC for a term from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023. Jack Sanders seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously. 12. FOR POSSIBLE ACTION- Discussion and Deliberation for any tourism-related recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners, with respect to PTAC’s role as an advisory committee to the BOCC. Following discussion, Karen Spalding moved the following recommendations be made to the Nye County BOCC: ---PAGE BREAK--- Page 2 PAHRUMP TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES ITEM # SUBJECT July 15, 2021 1. To assist with attractions and points of interest in Pahrump with wayfinding signage, more conducive policies (including at the planning and zoning level), and anything else that facilitates current attractions and future attractions. 2. To pursue wayfinding signs for the wineries, museums, equestrian attractions and the like. 3. To pursue more/better event venues and convention facilities. The motion was seconded by Vicki Gladjo and was approved by a majority with Jack Sanders and Tim Burke abstaining. 13. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second) None 14. ANNOUNCEMENTS Tim Burke announced upcoming activities at Artesian Cellars. Jack Sanders mentioned happenings at Sander’s Winery., one of wish is a fundraiser. Deanna O’Donnell reported on other community events. Vicki Gladsjo announced the Ms Pahrump Golden Years pageant will take place Sept. 18th The next PTAC meeting will be Sept. 9 at 8:00 a.m. Location to be determined 15. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:14 a.m.
