Veterans Advisory Committee Minutes September 21, 2023 1. Pledge of Allegiance and Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Beverly Baker, Vice-Chairman. Location, Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Copies of the August 2023 meeting minutes and the September 2023 agenda were provided. 2. Roll Call. In attendance: Vice-chair Beverly Baker, Secretary Alice Lübbers, Greg Cardarelli, Jerry Paradise, and Commissioner Frank Carbone, were present. No Public members were in attendance. Absent: Chairman Bruce Cox, Stephen Hall, Jerry Dumont, and Eddie Williams, all excused. Dina Williamson-Erdag, Unexcused. 3. Approval of the Agenda for September 21, 2023. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to accept the agenda as written. Jerry Paradise seconded. Motion was approved. 4. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Three-minute time limit per person.) Action will not be taken on the matters considered during this period until specifically included on an agenda as an action item (First). No Public present. 5. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation of the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee meeting minutes of August 17, 2023. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to accept the minutes as written. Jerry Paradise seconded. Motion was approved. 6. Announcements (First) • Eddie Williams will be TDY for several months. • The Annual Thank You BBQ, Thursday, October 26th. 11:00 -2:00 • No Committee meeting for December due to the holidays. 7. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding approval of past actions on out-of-cycle events at the Pahrump Veterans Memorial by the Chairman, Vice Chairman or Activities Coordinators. None. 9. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding future Certificates of Appreciation and Plaques to be presented from the Pahrump Veterans Advisory Committee. None. 10. For Possible Action - Discussion and deliberation regarding wreath holders; painting versus not painting, and possible color choice. After discussion the members agreed to paint the wreathe poles in the color of Christmas green. Alice Lübbers and Jerry Paradise will speak with Home Depot for paint donations. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to approve the wreath holders upgrades. Jerry Paradise seconded. Motion was approved. 11. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding Stephen Hall’s committee membership application. Each member was provided voting ballot tokens marked with the letter for yes and for no. Their selected token was placed in a paper bag and given to the vice chair for vote tally. Stephen Hall’s membership application was approved. 12. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation regarding the future purchase of a glass display cabinet to include size, construction type (aluminum, steel, wood etc.), locking vs non-locking doors, lights, shelving type (wood, glass), mirrors, and cost parameters. The cabinet will be in the lobby area of the Veterans Memorial building. Committee members moved the meeting to the lobby area of the building for demonstration and discussion. The members wanted the biggest affordable cabinet with sliding, locking doors, lights, mirrored back, glass shelving, metal frame and purchase cost between $3,000 -$4,000 dollars. Note, the cost may need to be adjusted for inflation. Greg Cardarelli made the motion to approve the glass display cabinet with the discussed parameters. Jerry Paradise seconded. For Possible Action – Discussion and deliberation to submit an agenda request to the Board of County Commissioners, serving at the Pahrump Town Board, to a) review and update the Chief Tecopa Cemetery tri-fold published by Pahrump Tourism, and b) create a QR standing card that will direct viewers to documents on the Pahrump Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee’s webpage that will provide information about the Memorial Wall, Memorial Bench Donations, Columbarium’s, Donation Wall, and the War Memorial Park Walk, all located within the Veterans Section of the Chief Tecopa Cemetery. Dina Williamson-Erdag was unavailable to present. The agenda item will be moved to the October 2023 meeting. 14. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (Second). None 15. COMMITTEE COMENTS (Second). None 16. ANNOUNCEMENTS (Second). Greg Cardarelli provided a flyer from the Veterans Administration announcing a Veterans Outreach Town Hall meeting. Date; September 29th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Veterans Memorial Building. The next meeting of the PVMAC; October 19, 2023, at the Veterans Building, Chief Tecopa cemetery. 17.
