1 TOWN OF PAHRUMP PROCLAMATION NO. P2023-01 2 A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING MAY 1, 2023 AS PAHRUMP YOUTH LAW-AWARENESS DAY IN THE TOWN OF PAHRUMP 3 WHEREAS, each May Pt is celebrated as National Law Day across the United States of America, with this year’s theme being ‘Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility, and 6 Collaboration’; and WHEREAS, the Town of Pahrump is committed to a more perfect union and acknowledges that 8 a more perfect union can be achieved in part by teaching youth the role of law in times of change; and WHEREAS Project REAL — a nonprofit serving the youth of Nevada - has been working 10 diligently to promote young Nevadans’ awareness of laws and consequences of breaking them; and 11 WHEREAS, on this occasion, our city asks all capable adults to instruct any young people in 12 their lives on the importance of thinking within the context of the law, and to help them understand that 13 ignorance of the law is not an accepted legal defense for breaking it; and 14 WHEREAS, these conversations with Nevada’s youth will make a notable contribution to safety 15 throughout our community; 16 NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the Nye County Board of County Commissioners, sitting as the 17 Governing Body of the Unincorporated Town of Pahrump do hereby proclaim May 1, 2023, to be 18 Pahrump You Law-Awareness Day and encourage our citizens to do their share in protecting our 19 freedom and creating a just and orderly society by adhering to the rule of law. 20 APPROVED this 4t1 day of April, 2023 21 NYE COUNTY ATTEST: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS: Bie Jabbour, chair Mark F. ampf, Nye County Clerk 24 and Ex-Officio Clerk of the Board 25 Proclamation P2023-01
